In alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), having a culturally diverse nursery is essential. With teachers and children of all different backgrounds and lifestyle, it is essential that everyone is well represented. This includes: -Toys of different races, abilities and features -Displays of country flags -A variety of atlases and globes -Books about families and cultures available on the bookshelves First conversations about topics such as these may seem a bit daunting as children can be quite inquisitive and want to know more. It is important to remember that children are able to understand things in ways that even adults may find complex! Often it is best to start with fun and educational circle times to stimulate their minds.
In the next blog post, I will introduce you to the 'Beauty of Me: Learning about Skin' presentation that will involve sub topics such as:
-What is skin?
-Why is skin (and other organs) important?
-Why do we all have different shades and colours?
-How do we take care of our skin?
-Self-love affirmations for confidence building
This is a brilliant way for the children to begin to learn about different body parts and self care alongside learning about their differences and similarities.
